Everett True anyone recommend any good books on female-fronted punk rock (overview, not specific bands)... I mean, '77-'89

Let me know if you find any as I've been looking all over. As for overviews there's another list of female fronted bands here. http://www.mindspring.com/~acheslow/AuntMary/bang/wip.html

There's a great book by Helen McCookerybook (The Lost Women of Rock Music) under her real name of Helen Reddington about female musicians of the punk era in the UK. More musician-oriented than frontperson, but great book. Only trouble is it's an academic book so costs a fortune - but I was given my copy as a present.

I second Rachel's suggestion, great book. Never Mind the Bollocks is also good (although does concentrate on certain artists, as does She Bop).

yeah, there's actually a copy of Helen's book at the QUT library! I was going to mention it but didn't for the reasons you just stated.... I don't really like She Bop.

actually this book, the SEx Revolts, does indeed cover bands from that era - not exclusively however, but they've got everyone from The Raincoats to Marianne Faithfull to Grace Slick and Babes in Toyland and Annie Lenox...just to name a few!!! :-0
