I've spent years trying to work out that particular ordering. If you have a breakthrough do please pass it on. I favour eat, sleep, think, write, drink, drink, write, write, spellcheck, invoice, think. On a good day

Or do what I do. Drink, write, accidentally pick a fight with the leader of a bikee club, then wake up and see what you did on facebook the night before.

hey, i resent that. I'm quite young and i hope to become a music critic...amongst over things.
By the way: my order is usually drink first, then think, then write, drink more, then write. Then usually what i was first thinking about changes completely as I'm writing...might be because of the drink.. i don't know

Write first, ask questions later. Always the best interview technique.

Tommy, ok if you don't get so attached to your original story that you avoid changing it once you actually have access to original source material.
